Freelance vacancies for Writing a Novel tutors – join our talented team

Faber Writing Academy is seeking Expressions of Interest from novelists across Australia and Aotearoa / New Zealand.

Faber Writing Academy at Allen & Unwin hosts an exciting annual program of writing courses and editorial services designed by Australia’s leading writing and publishing professionals. Since 2010, Australia’s leading independent publisher Allen & Unwin has partnered with Faber and Faber to present the Faber Writing Academy.

Our writing courses are devised and run by leading figures in contemporary publishing, including award-winning authors and publishers and literary agents working at the highest level in the industry.

Based at the Sydney offices of Allen & Unwin – but rolled out around the country and online – we are currently working to expand our offering geographically, digitally, and in terms of accessibility. As such, we are looking to recruit a number of experienced creative writing tutors on a freelance basis to craft and teach world-class courses to students across Australia and Aotearoa / New Zealand.

Tutoring will commence in July 2024 and focus on delivering brand new courses to incoming students. We are currently seeking applicants for tutors for a Writing a Novel course in Naarm / Melbourne  (10 am – 1pm on Fridays) and various online programs, which can be taught remotely. Please note that for Writing a Novel we employ writers with at least one novel published via a traditional publisher (ie not self-published).

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander writers and writers of colour are strongly encouraged to apply.

Fees are variable depending on the length of course and subsequent teaching schedule. We require a short EOI to be submitted here. Please contact Sam Twyford-Moore (via faberwritingacademy@allenandunwin.com) if you require more information, including hourly rates and expectations of time, ahead of submitting an EOI.
