Faber Academy was established by iconic London publishing house Faber & Faber to provide high quality, practical creative writing courses that draw participants into the very centre of the book publishing world.
Since 2010, Australia’s leading independent publisher Allen & Unwin has partnered with Faber and Faber to present the Faber Writing Academy. Our writing courses are devised and run by leading figures in contemporary publishing, including award-winning authors and publishers and literary agents working at the highest level in the industry.

Key personnel

Pip Smith, Faber Writing Academy Manager
Pip was named a SMH/ The Age Best Young Novelist of 2018 for her debut novel Half Wild (A & U, 2017) which she completed as the scholarship recipient of the 2015 Write a Novel course at the Faber Writing Academy. She was the inaugural winner of the Helen Ann Bell award for her debut collection of poetry Too Close for Comfort and has published two picture books with Scholastic Press. She is passionate about teaching, and continues to teach for the Faber Writing Academy.
She has served as the Director of the National Young Writers Festival and founded Penguin Plays Rough, a monthly literary soiree which was held in her lounge room, as well as museums and libraries around Sydney.

Rowena Tuziak, Marketing Manager
Rowena has over 17 years of experience in communications, including six years in the arts, most notably as the Marketing and Communications Manager for Shopfront Arts Co-op, the Membership and Operations Manager for Writing NSW, and the Program Manager for Writing NSW. She holds a Master of Creative Writing and is keen to spend any free time she has putting the finishing touches on her literary novel before releasing it out into the world.
Rowena oversees the production of our anthology, as well as designing and steering the academy’s marketing campaigns.

Olivia Garcia, Coordinator
Oli graduated from UTS with a Bachelor of Communications majoring in Creative Writing, and a Post-Graduate Certificate in Editing and Publishing. She worked as a bookseller for two-and-a-half years, and in 2024 she completed the Open Book Internship, where she dove headfirst into the world of publishing alongside Hachette and NewSouth Books. She has a soft spot for fantasy and sci-fi, and will not hesitate to talk your ear off about her latest favourite read.
Oli supports Pip and Rowena in the day-to-day and long-term coordination of Faber courses, student enquiries, events, and organisation.
