Faber Academy was established by iconic London publishing house Faber & Faber to provide high quality, practical creative writing courses that draw participants into the very centre of the book publishing world.

Since 2010, Australia’s leading independent publisher Allen & Unwin has partnered with Faber and Faber to present the Faber Writing Academy. Our writing courses are devised and run by leading figures in contemporary publishing, including award-winning authors and publishers and literary agents working at the highest level in the industry.

Key personnel

Pip Smith, Faber Writing Academy Manager
Pip was named a SMH/ The Age Best Young Novelist of 2018 for her debut novel Half Wild (A & U, 2017) which she completed as the scholarship recipient of the 2015 Write a Novel course at the Faber Writing Academy. She was the inaugural winner of the Helen Ann Bell award for her debut collection of poetry Too Close for Comfort and has published two picture books with Scholastic Press. She is passionate about teaching, and continues to teach for the Faber Writing Academy.

She has served as the Director of the National Young Writers Festival and founded Penguin Plays Rough, a monthly literary soiree which was held in her lounge room, as well as museums and libraries around Sydney.

Kimberley Carter, Co-ordinator
Kimberley graduated from Macquarie University with a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Creative Writing. She had a blast as the Project Manager for issue 18 of The Quarry Journal and has previously enjoyed volunteering for the Newcastle Writers Festival. When she is not reading, writing, or editing, she enjoys spending time outdoors and discovering new music or TV shows to binge.
