Brisbane writers, is there a novel inside you that is trying to get out?

Novelist Emily O’Grady teaches Writing a Novel in Brisbane and she has assembled a wonderful guestlist.

When you have a story that needs telling, sitting down to write your novel can seem an overwhelming, and at times insurmountable, task. Our 2023 Brisbane Writing a Novel course offers emerging novelists the guidance and support to undertake this daunting yet thrilling endeavour.

The course is taught by Emily O’Grady, whose debut novel The Yellow House received the 2018 Australian/Vogel’s Literary Award – among other impressive accolades. Under Emily’s tutelage, Writing a Novel takes students through the processes involved in setting a novel up for success, including planning, the development of core skills and establishing dedicated writing practice.

Over the three-stage course, Emily will be joined by an esteemed line up of guests, including Trent Dalton (Boy Swallows Universe), Mirandi Riwoe (Stone Sky Gold Mountain), Laura Elvery (Ordinary Matter), and Emily Bitto (Wild Abandon). This stunning array of authorial talent, among other industry professionals, provides students access to firsthand experiences of novel writing – the challenges and triumphs that come with it, and how to navigate both.
