I’m looking forward to working on “voice” this year in the Writing Captivating Picture Books course.

I feel this can be something that makes or breaks a manuscript and finding or recognising what voice is and how integral it is in making a manuscript sing rather than speak, can provoke a much looser and more particular type of writing or seeking of the story.

I hope students will come out with a new way of working on their ideas, one that allows for a playful approach, that starts with the particular and expands into the familiar. It is always exciting for me to see manuscripts transform or take on a whole new direction.
