Faber Writing Academy Code of Conduct Policy

Faber Writing Academy Code of Conduct Policy

We are proud to run professional and friendly courses and services designed to inspire and support your writing, learning and creativity. To ensure a productive learning environment for everyone, we expect you to be respectful and thoughtful to your fellow classmates, guest speakers, administrators, and tutors. We reserve the right to remove any student who does not comply with this conduct policy.

“Contribution” in the below can either mean commentary in class or writing submitted to tutors and fellow students.

The Code of Conduct at Faber Writing Academy at Allen & Unwin

Respecting boundaries. Please respect the boundaries of your tutors and only reach out to them outside class hours when absolutely necessary. You can do so via the LMS or our co-ordinator. The discussion board is a good place to post general queries about craft, where your peers and the tutor can benefit from a wider discussion. Likewise, we ask that you please refrain from asking for the personal email address or contact details of your tutors.

Content warning. By enrolling in our course/s you hereby agree to provide a content warning if your Contribution includes any direct portrayal of sexual assault, violence or trauma-inducing content. Our classes provide a safe place within which writers can test and craft writing that directly deals with trauma, but we must give others the option to refrain from engaging with such Contributions if they know they will cause them harm.

Discrimination. You must not make any Contribution which is discriminatory in nature. This means that you should not make any Contribution which makes an unjust or prejudicial statement about a person or group of people based on their personal characteristics such as age, disability, gender reassignment status, marital or civil partner status, pregnancy or maternity status, race, colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin, religion or belief, sex or sexual orientation.

Threats, harassment and violence. You must not make any Contribution which is threatening or harassing in nature or promotes violence either to an individual or a group of people. Behaviour may be considered threatening or harassing if it personally attacks someone, or if there are directed comments which are persistent in nature.

Hate and provocation. You must not make Contributions which incite hatred, or which are designed to provoke an individual or group of individuals, or cause that person or those individuals needless anxiety.

Artificial Intelligence (AI). You undertake not to pass off any work produced entirely by or in significant conjunction with chatbots or other AI platforms (including but not limited to ChatGPT, Google Bard, Sudowrite) as your own writing, without making this explicit. This applies to applications for courses, work shared on courses or work presented in anthologies or other publications related to Faber Writing Academy courses.

Ownership. You must not post any content or submit any Work which is plagiarised, or which would otherwise represent a breach of copyright (or any other intellectual property right).

Privacy. You must not make a Contribution which includes personal data (such as the telephone number, location, home address or email address) of yourself or any other individual. You should not make a Contribution which includes information about another person which would reasonably be considered private without their consent (for example, information about their personal relationships or employment).

In order to protect the IP of the tutor’s course notes, and to protect the copyright of students’ work, it is the policy of Faber Writing Academy that we do not record Zoom sessions. We also ask that students refrain from privately recording the classes.

Actions if this Code of Conduct is broken

Right to remove Users from Classes: If you breach this Policy in one of your Classes or in any Works which you submit, we reserve the right to remove those Works from any Classes they have been shared in and/or remove you from that Class and any other similar classes.
