Barbara TonerHow to Write the Novel in You

A two day course in learning to think like a writer

with Barbara Toner

Maximum of 8 participants

Everyone has a story to tell. Some of these stories demand to be told. The challenge for the teller is how to transport the story from head to page without succumbing to any of the pressing concerns that can confuse and demoralise. Barbara Toner will help you address the important questions:

• How do you know if your idea is a good one?
• How do you shape inspiration into a compelling read?
• How do you get beyond the brilliant opening chapters into the heart of the story without losing momentum?
• When the story gets stuck, how do you find a way forward and still keep track of the point?
• When's a good time to end?

Barbara Toner is the acclaimed author of twelve published books of both fiction and non-fiction. Over two days she will guide you through her own tried and tested techniques for converting the germ of an idea into the book you're imagining. Her highly personalised approach will apply the techniques to your own story. If you have no clear idea of what your story is, she will help you develop it. Because she aims to hold your book in her head for the entire two days, the workshop can accommodate no more than eight participants.

Practical exercises cover:

• Recognising a good idea
• Turning the idea into a story
• Structuring the story
• Getting the story onto the page
• Refining the story

The course includes:

• Two full days intensive tuition from 10am - 5pm
• Lunch and regular tea and coffee breaks
• A copy of a recent A&U publication

Book soon to avoid disappointment. Numbers strictly limited to 8.

Barbara Toner has previously run this course in regional NSW and Israel to great acclaim. This is what a couple of her former students say…

Barbara Toner's … two day course is worth its weight in gold. Within a day of finishing it, I had a clear idea of tone, theme, storyline and structure and I had written my first thousand words. AN

By far, the best investment I have made in my future and mental health was a course with Barbara. After only two days with her, I have the knowledge, tools, confidence, and passion to unleash the book in me. TG
