This Masterclass is aimed at published writers who are changing genre or unpublished writers receiving interest from publishers at submission level. All participants will need to bring one of their completed manuscripts to work on.

Major components of the course will be a talk and exercises on theme, character, structure, action and language. The essential roles of the writer/illustrator, publisher and designer, and the decisions they make about the book, will also be discussed.

Participant requirements
Participants will need to bring a picture book manuscript to work on.

About the presenters

Jane Godwin is the highly acclaimed author of many books for children and young people. Jane is also the Publisher, Books for Children and Young Adults, at Penguin Books Australia.

Erica Wagner has worked with books for most of her life, as a bookseller, editor and publisher, and is currently Publisher, Books for Children and Teenagers at Allen & Unwin.

Sandra Nobes has worked as a freelance book designer for over 20 years and is currently the Children's and Teenage Book Designer at Allen & Unwin.
