Course fee: $295 / $250 alumni

A one-day course offering aspiring writers the opportunity to find out what really goes on inside a publishing house, how publishers make their choices and how to improve one's chances of publication. The program will include sessions on sure-fire proposals, editing your first page, opening chapters, how to write a great covering letter and some of the reasons a manuscript may be rejected.

The day will include group sessions along with individual feedback - for this you are required to send in the first two pages of your manuscript at least two weeks ahead of the course date (see under the 'Book' button below).

The course includes:
• A full day of intensive tuition with Sue Hines from 10am to 4pm
• Lunch and regular tea and coffee breaks.
• A complimentary copy of an A&U publication.
• A 10% discount on full priced books purchased at any Readings shop - the official bookseller for the Academy (not valid for online purchases, other offers, lay-bys or special orders)
• On completion of the course, alumni discounts on future Faber Writing Academy courses and books from the Allen & Unwin website.

All our class sizes are strictly limited. Book soon to avoid disappointment.

Getting Published is targeted at students who have manuscripts written for the adult market; either fiction or nonfiction. If your manuscript is for young adults, children or is a picture book, Faber Writing Academy also runs Getting Published as a Writer for Children. Please e-mail faberwritingacademy@allenandunwin.com for further details.

About the tutor

Sue Hines was, until her retirement, the Group Publishing Director at Allen & Unwin and Murdoch Books where she was responsible for the company's publishing and managed the publishing teams. Her career stretches back over thirty years to the independent publishing house McPhee Gribble, when that company was the powerhouse of Australian literary publishing. Sue has been a publisher of fiction, non-fiction and illustrated books. She retired at the end of 2016 but continues to do some consulting work with Allen & Unwin. She has taught Faber Writing Academy’s Getting Published course for the last seven years.

Please note in the event of unforeseen circumstances, courses - including tutors and venues - may be subject to cancellation or change.
